Roses in history

♦ In Ancient Egypt roses were used for fragrance and decoration, and Queen Cleopatra was believed to have covered the floor of her palace room with roses before Mark Antony visited her.

♦ Nowadays you may get to kiss under the mistletoe, but in Roman times anything which was said 'under the rose' was deemed to be a secret. Romans would also use them as room decorations, or wear them on strings around their necks.
